MINISTRIES

Serving God and His people through various ministries is a central theme at Union Baptist Church.  Through our ministries, we strive to meet the varying needs of our congregation, and surrounding communities.  

Deacons Ministry 

"Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."

Mission Statement:

The Mission of the UBC Deacons Ministry is to care for the members of UBC by nurturing, and strengthening individuals, and families through the Word of God. They have been chosen by the church, and appointed by the Pastor to also oversee the business of the church.

They assist in:

  • Baptism

    • UBC believes in emerging the whole (i.e. entire) body under water​

  • The Lord's Supper​​ 

They also:

  • Support and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to believers, and unbelievers 

  • Are to be Spiritual men empowered by the Holy Spirit

  • Are to be Knowledgeable of the Word of God through the scriptures in the Holy Bible

Vision:

The Deacons in the Ministry are spiritual caregivers who strive to meet the various needs of the UBC congregation through spiritual guidance, counseling, and support. 

This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Counseling with the sick and shut-in through visitation, calls, letters, and prayers

  • Performing various tasks for the benevolence work of the church

  • Being aware of the spiritual needs of the entire congregation, and responding to those needs collectively and/or individually

  • Striving to promote, and maintain unity within the church

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Deaconess Ministry of Union Baptist Church is:

  • To be spiritual women empowered with God's Holy Spirit

  • To support the vision of the Pastor, and Deacons while edifying the Kingdom of God

  • To be knowledgeable of His word in order to provide support, assistance, and continuing care to the members of the congregation and community.

  • To visit the sick and bereaved

  • To assist in preparing elements of The Lord's Supper

  • To prepare candidates for Baptism

Vision:

  • To be equipped to witness to all people within the Union Baptist Church congregation, and community.

  • To promote love, and harmony among the congregation

  • To be an advocate for change that will strengthen the church, and the ministries

Music Ministry 

"Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto to the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints."

The UBC Music Ministry provides appropriate music for worship service, special church events, and other engagements that may be requested by the Pastor, church family members, or other churches.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Music Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to be an instrument that ushers in the Holy Spirit to please God through: praise, worship​, and devotional songs.

Vision:

To develop a cohesive team that understands all facets of the worship experience by:

  • having a committed director, choir members and musicians

  • Providing appropriate musical selections

  • Preparing the hearts of our congregation to receive the Word of God.

  • Promoting harmony and an atmosphere that yields to the presence of the Holy Spirit at all times

Trustees Ministry

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood."

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Trustees Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to oversee the financial responsibilities of operating the church as well as overseeing the care, maintenance and repair of church property.  The Trustees are given treasurer/accountant duties related to the overseeing, and handling (i.e. counting, depositing, withdrawing, and documenting) of all money entrusted to the church.

Vision:

  • To act as a liaison between the members of the congregation and the church leaders by representing and articulating the interest of the congregation

  • To ensure that the church can meet its annual financial goals

  • To approve expenses and payments that are generated by the church

  • To provide guidance, and review of important documents before the church enters into a contract or financial agreement

  • To prepare regular financial reports about the state of the church

Men's Ministry

"Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."            1 Thessalonians 5:11 KJV

Mission Statement:  

The mission of the Men's Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to build each other up as loving and godly men empowered through the Holy Spirit to become genuine Christ-like servants in our home, church, career, and community.  Our aim is to be men of strong character and integrity who serve, and support one another with intentional and inclusive actions, and fellowship. 

Vision:

To cultivate an atmosphere conducive to the development of our seasoned, and younger men into:

  • Men of Purpose:  "Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment." Mark 12:37-38

  • Men of Integrity: "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving."  Colossians 2:6-7

  • Men of Commitment:  "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

  • Men of Service:  "But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."  2 Chronicles 15:7 

Women's Ministry 

"She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Women's Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to be a Christ-Centered ministry committed to inspiring all women to develop, and to nurture a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the word of God.  We desire to lead by example showing all women how to live a more spiritual, fruitful, and abundant life in our church, and community through:

  • Prayer

  • Study, and application of the word

  • Fellowship

  • Serving on another

Vision:

To encourage all women to fulfill their call to God through prayer, discipline, and fellowship.

Youth Ministry

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Youth Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to encourage all children and youth to seek and cultivate a personal, and ever growing relationship with Jesus Christ through:

  • Relevant teaching of the word

  • Worship

  • Prayer

  • Service 

Vision:

To provide an atmosphere where all youth can feel free to be honest, and open.  Knowing that they are being heard, and accepted while being spiritually guided through their journey of faith.

Christian Education Ministry

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Mission Statement:

The mission, and overall purpose of the Christian Education Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to provide, and develop and promote programs that equip individuals for discipleship.                 

The Christian Education Ministry is comprised of sub-ministries (Sunday School, New Members Class, Wednesday Night "Hour of Pour," and Mid-Week (Thursday Daytime) Bible Study) that individually and collectively focus on spirituality, service and education.  Biblical teaching and learning are the essential elements of our ministry.

Vision:

To develop a ministry recognized for its demonstrated discipline, respect, and integrity in preaching "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

  • To establish a holistic approach to ministering, nurturing, and caring for saved and unsaved persons while striving to transform souls into Christ-like vessels.

  • To establish a ministry recognized for its concern with the church's mission, and its involvement with issues of social justice and societal transformation.

Pastor's Aide Ministry

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Pastor's Aide Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to encourage and support the Pastor (as well as his family) as he encourages and supports his congregation and community.  This ministry leads the congregation in celebrating the Pastor's anniversary of service to God and people, as well as other special occasions throughout the year.  

Vision:

To always be mindful of the many varying needs of the Pastor, and to:

  • Be in prayer for his needs, and the needs of his family

  • Encourage church members, and church ministries to provide support in various ways (i.e. encouragement; financial; personal) to the Pastor and his family

  • Always be prepared to assist the Pastor and his family through diligent service that honors God

Visitation Ministry

"For I was hungry an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me....And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25: 35-36,40 KJV

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Visitation Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to reach out in love, and provide a spiritual connection to those members who are unable to attend regular church service due to:

  • Living in a nursing home, or long/short term care facility

  • Hospitalization

  • Extended illness at home

  • Disability challenges

Vision

The vision of the men, and women who serve in the Visitation Ministry, is to be able to connect with our members on a weekly and/or monthly basis to share the Gospel and the Love of God through:

  • The Word

  • Prayer

  • Holy Communion

  • Encouraging Fellowship

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Kitchen Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to prepare and serve the best refreshments or meals for the church on a variety of occasions, and special events.  The members of this ministry share their spiritual gifts and talents by having:

  • A passion for serving and catering to others

  • Exceptional cooking skills

  • Desire to serve God by preparing and sharing quality food to the congregation and community

Vision:

To assist the church by catering events, and increase the number of volunteers willing not only to serve others, but also to cook for others with love.

Planning & Activities Ministry

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Planning and Activities Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to coordinate planned church events for the calendar year.  This is achieved by reaching out to all UBC Ministries who are planning special events throughout the year to provide the date/time, as well as any additional assistance they may need from other UBC ministries (e.g. Music Ministry; Ushers Ministry; Kitchen Ministry; etc.) to ensure a successful event.

Vision:

To schedule and/or coordinate various church and community events/activities to:

  • Celebrate the goodness of God

  • Honor important milestones at Union Baptist Church

  • Address the relevant needs of the congregation and community

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Ushers Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to always greet members, and visitors with a smile, and always willing to serve with a helping hand during church (as well as other) services.  Our Ushers are committed to being true servants of God by:

  • Maintaining an inviting, and safe environment during service

  • Assisting the Pastor in providing (and keeping) order, creating a spirit of worship, and reverence during service

Vision:

To be ambassadors of God-centered hospitality to members (and non-members) while maintaining order during all phases of service being held at Union Baptist Church, and while serving at other churches.

Missionary Ministry

"The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Missionary/Outreach Ministry of Union Baptist Church is to help identify, and address the spiritual (as well as material) needs of the communities of God while bringing the Word of God to those communities (Matthew 28:19 KJV). The UBC Missionaries concentrate on domestic missions but also partner with other churches to help support missionary efforts across the globe.

Vision:

  • To be an ambassador of Christ, and missionaries of the Gospel

  • To delight in serving others by yielding to the call of God

  • To bring hope to the lost by spreading the good news of Christ
