Union Baptist Church was founded in 1862 under the leadership of the oldest Black church in Charles City County, namely Elam Baptist Church. Reverend Tommy Drayton was the 10th Pastor and served faithfully for 40 years retiring in 2019 as Pastor Emeritus. Rev. Dr. Ronnie L. Fleming served as the Interim Pastor for the last five years, and shall execute the position of Consultant for the Pastor Search Committee. The church has a small congregation of various adult age groups and a smaller representation of children, youth and young adults. Although small in quantity, the members faithfully seek to render sacrificial service unto the Lord in various ministries (see church website: ubc-cc.org).

 

The Bi-Vocational Pastor will be the spiritual leader of the church by first seeking direction and guidance from God on behalf of the congregation. The Pastor must be upright, of good moral and blameless character as outlined in Scripture, I Timothy 3:25 with spiritual maturity, a gifted teacher, willing to serve humbly, and preacher of God’s Word. Being led by the Holy Spirit, the Pastor should strengthen and grow the congregation spiritually by preparing relevant teaching, preaching, pastoral care and community outreach to meet the needs of multi-generational families.

 

The Union Baptist Church family is in search of a dynamic and energetic individual to serve as Pastor. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with exceptional interpersonal, pastoral and spiritual leadership skills. The applicant must be licensed and ordained as a Baptist Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be able to edify and grow the congregants through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

 

The responsibilities of the Pastor shall include (but are not limited to): perform all the priestly duties such as baptisms, weddings, installations and ordinations as well as provide pastoral counseling, and preside over Church business meetings (familiarity with Robert’s Rules of Order). The Pastor shall also support other ministries including participation in community and other church related events. The Pastor shall serve as the administrator and manager of the church.

 

Educational Requirements

 

The applicant must possess a degree from an accredited college, have extensive experience under a Senior Pastor in training to become a Pastor, or possess experience commensurate for executing the title of Pastor.

 

Experience Requirements

 

This individual must have demonstrated excellent leadership, management, and administrative skills. The ideal applicant will also have experience working with various ministries while serving in other churches.

 

Additional Information

 

There will be a pre-screening of applicant credentials and selected candidate(s) must complete an interview process; however, the top two or three candidates will also undergo a thorough background check to include criminal, civil, financial, employment and reference check.
