Dr. Fleming is no stranger to the UBC congregation. His first teaching position was at Charles City High School back in 1985. Over the years, he shared a wonderful relationship with Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Tommy Drayton; they remain friends for more than 35 years. In fact, Pastor Drayton called Dr. Fleming after listening to his sermon, (April 19th) entitled, “The If Factor.” Pastor Drayton gave Dr. Fleming some advice (and I quote); “Love on the People” are the words he uttered; and those words are precisely what Dr. Fleming plans on doing.

With an unprecedented challenge facing the church, namely the COVID-19 pandemic, not to mention the fact that the church is without a Pastor, the people of God still need to be fed the Word of the Lord. Jesus asked Peter: “Do you love me?” and Peter said three times—"Yes Lord” and Jesus’ response was explicit: “FEED MY SHEEP,” is what our Lord mentioned three times. I commend the Chairman of the Deacons’ Ministry, Deacon Randolph Bates and his wife Edna, as well as Deacon Irvin Randolph and his wife Rita. They have understood the importance of providing ongoing spiritual opportunities to strengthen and guide God’s people through these struggling and unexpected times.

Dr. Fleming shall continue to work with the church’s leaders to discover exciting and innovative ways to provide ministries to promote the cause of Christ and to instruct the body of believers so they can grow, hear the Lord’s voice and share their faith with those who will come seeking.
